The Canawlers have created a site that is a virtual museum for the Delaware & Hudson Canal. The canal was the second oldest canal in New York State and the first that was privately owned. It ran from the Pennsylvania coal fields to the Hudson River. From there the coal was then barged or shipped by sloop down to New York City. It operated from 1828 to 1898. It was the first privately owned million dollar corporation in the United States.
