Meats and Fast Foods - Dare to Eat Me Now!

2009
In the U.S., more than 41 million cows suffer and die for the meat and diary industries every year. Cows and the mean they supply go through many phases before they are sold to the consumer. From their beginning at the cattle ranges to the slaughter house, the cows are subject to many alterations to make the product consumable and eventually end up in our fast food restaurants. The affordability of meat products in the fast food industry makes it easy for teenagers to digest possible cancer causing chemicals, fall into bad eating habits and gain harmful amounts of weight.

Team Collaboration

Our team members attend the Upward Bound Program at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP UB). All of us attend different high schools in different parts of the city, Kathryn is in band as well as on the Riverside Rangerette dance/drill team, due to her heavily booked activities, she was really hard to get hold of in order to squeeze her spare time to be our team lead, Jose is a member of National Honor Society with lots of community service projects, and in "High Q" to compete against other schools in a kind of information game show that is recorded and aired on television, and in theater to perform in fall and spring plays, of course Chris can't live without his video games. It is impossible for us to physically get together on our own time to work on this project, however with the time management skills we learn at UTEP UB Program and through the wonderful internet emails, numerous phone calls and thousands of (if not millions of) textings, we were able to complete this web site successfully.

Team Diversity

All of us attend different high schools, Kathryn is currently a junior at Riverside High School, Chris at Canutillo high and Jose at Irvin High, Chris is a Vietnamese American, Kathryn and Jose Hispanic, we all live in different parts of the city, and our parents are from different ethnic backgrounds, sometimes it is hard to reach our team members when we try to reach him/her when we call his/her home.
