Team Collaboration
Our team worked together during school on our Quest days, after school, and weekends to complete the site. We all had different jobs to do such as: Lauren was the team leader, photographer, and web designer because I am good at these things. Ashley was a photographer and writer because she likes to write. Willow was our researcher and she is really good at finding information and writing about it. Kyle was in charge of games and music. He plays a lot of games so he knows whats makes a good one.Lucas was also in charge of games, music, and web design. He is very energetic and fun to work with.
We all showed a lot of patience because we had to make many videos and redo them at times. We also did a good job in finding people who we could interview. Lauren is very good with words and feel, comfortable around many kinds of people. So she prepared the questions and Ashley video taped. We also took advantage of things we were doing in class because we studied waterways. For example, we took digital movies of horseshoe crab embryos, phytoplankton, and zooplankton from the lagoon.
Our team is made up of 3 girls and 2 boys. Sometimes we disagreed on what to put in the site. IN that case, we voted and then put it on the website and looked at it. Next, we decided as a group if we liked it or not. Luckily, we were always able to work it out.
Team Diversity
Our team is made up of 3 girls and 2 boys. We are diverse in ideas and experience we brought to the group. ONe of the group members lives with only her mom. She has 4 brothers and sisters and they are very poor. She is very shy and this experience helped her to improve her self-esteem. This is her first year at Indialantic Elementary and we wanted to make her feel welcome. The other members of our group are of the same socio-economic status but one of the boys lives with only his mom. Since she is a working mom, it was hard for him to stay after school so we worked together with him as much as we could during the school day in Quest.
Our sources were very diverse because we went out into the community to seek expertise in water ecosystems. We interviewed a college student who was involved in researching horseshoe crabs. She is doing her thesis on this topic. We also emailed a Professor, Dr. Wolfe, and interviewed her about phytoplankton. She is studying the local waterways and the effect of Red Tide on our community. We hate Red Tide because it makes us sick and kills some of our marine mammals. She is conducting a monitoring system and reportingit back to NOAA. She shared with us how scientists do real world work! Another professor we sought out goes to the Phillipines each year to teach the villagers about aqua culture. His name is Dr. Turingan and he is a professor at a local university.
We also interviewed every day kids and classmates.
