cloning : 100% extra

2001
As we move into the new millennium, the technology that brought Dolly the sheep into existence has proven to be more than a nine days wonder. Scientists already produce clones from foetal cells with relative ease; other researchers have combined cloning with genetic engineering to create cattle and sheep that produce therapeutic proteins in their milk; and over 200 human volunteers stand ready to carry the world’s first cloned babies. The further development of cloning may be impossible to resist, however, the huge potential impact means that everyone should at least consider the subject. Cloning : 100% extra provides a resource for those interested in the science, and also opens a window into the fundamental ethical debate. This website aims to bring to life the issues surrounding one of the biggest scientific developments of our time, and contains a debating lounge, response forums and voting polls in order to receive and record your opinions.
