Team Collaboration

We are a group of young people with different strengths and weaknesses and being in a group of 2 girls and 3 boys is challenging at times. We have different class schedules as we take different subjects combinations thus, meeting up to meet deadlines is a serious obstacle in doing our website. other than attending extra supplementary on Mondays and Thursdays, we have to cope with weekly common tests that are counted as part of the overall major examination marks and this meant constant revision and practice time must be spent on it. We have to cope with tons of homework from all subjects and the oncoming projects both academically and for competitions or for other important activities and programmes, bearing all the stress from teachers and parents. All of us are involved in different talent development programmes, having about three subjects each, which all happen on different days and time slots, causing meetings to be difficult to arrange. Besides, there are enrichment programmes going on frequently and, Vincent and Venkat, are busy with their councilor duties and activities. There is of course the co-curricular activity (CCA) that is part of our curriculum after school on the standard Tuesdays and Fridays.Venkat, Harish and Joey have CCAs even during the holidays, weekends and non co-curricular days! A major problem is that our computers are not very advanced in technology, thus it created a lot of problems when it hangs and jams every now and then.

Despite all the odds and because of our thirst for new knowledge and experiences, we still came together and did everything to the best of our abilities. For example, Jooyee is the planner in the group and organises all tasks for easy co-ordination. This is reinforced by Vincent who is always so calm and composed during meetings and he offers a sense of direction for the group.

The group did face some obstacles such as not having the whole group to go on the trip to Cambodia. Vincent and Harish were unable to join us on the learning journey to Cambodia and were left out of some serious discussions and photo-taking the rest of us were involved in. So, when we came back to S'pore, we had fill them in on what we had learnt in Cambodia and ended up being frustrated and thrown off-track due to our over-enthusiasm in describing our travels! Thanks to creative Joey who brought us back to the present! Harish is the IT guru of this team and is able to keep our creative juices flowing all the time! Venkat is able to see things from a macro perspective and often leads the group in productive interaction.

Team Diversity

We come from multiple socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural groups. We speak languages such as Tamil, Hindi, Chinese, Malay, Teochew, Hokkien and Cantonese and we are a unique bunch. Each of us believes in different religions like Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism and free-thinker. We also differ in opinions and mindset which could be because some of us are more old-fashioned and carry the traditional thinking while others have more modernized views. Using this diversity, we are able to share our experiences with the whole group as we come from different countries too. Venkat and Harish come from South India, Vincent and Joey are from Singapore and Jooyee is an ex-Malaysian who is now a proud Singaporean! We practice different religions and that explains how we are able to relate to the different religions from the countries that we have explored in our website.

Team effectively utilizes their diversity to explore and present the topic.

When 3 of us went to Cambodia to gain additional learning materials for our website, we were very excited as this is the 1st time we are going for a school trip. We did alot of prior research to familiarise ourselves with the Siem Reap so that we can be more focused when we do the exploration. We were able to do alot of videoing and photographing, thanks to our prior research!
