Sugar Plantation Days

The website is about how people of different cultures from around the world came to work and live with each other on a sugar plantation. King Sugar as it was known has been the main early force in bringing together many different people from around the world to Hawaii. This website has tried to give visitors a taste of what the plantation life was like. It is important that the site also show how the different cultures shared and respected each others beliefs and customs.
The educational objectives of the website are:
1) The students will receive and introduction to the history of the immigration of plantation workers from around the world including Japan, Okinawa, China, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Korea, and the Philippines.
2) The students will be able to explain how people with different languages were able to communicate with each other by sharing words and forming a Pidgin English.
3) The students will be able to discuss and list the present local customs that were the result of the cultural blend of the different nationalities.
4) The students will be able to list ways that the children of the plantation era created toys by using their imagination and creativity.
5) The students will be able to know of different foods from different ethnic origins that are popular in Hawaii and how they arrived in the islands.
6) The students will be able to explain how the immigrant workers worked on the plantation.
