Team Collaboration
The Seekers team for the ThinkQuest09 consists of Danny, Jason, Sathish, and Varun from India, Kamika from Singapore, and Patricia from the United States; Assistant Coach Jayakumaran is from India and Coach Amit is from Singapore.
Danny was the design-wiz of the web site. He collaborated with Satheesh who did the actual editing of different elements using various image processing software. The look and feel and the different structural aspects of the site were the result of their close collaboration.
Jason and Varun were in-charge of the multimedia elements such as the flash games, movies etc. Together they created all the flash games and the other colorful elements in the site, that spice it up, of course they incorporated some of Satheesh’s artistic creations.
Kamika was donned with the task of content writing. She compiled all the research that everyone had accumulated. Of course the design was done by everyone and like hungry little bots crawling the web, we went about collecting information and researching on different topics that each of us chose. Patricia provided the team with a French version of the site.
Our Coach provided us with the inspiration needed to go through with such technical entities as search engines. Our Assistant coach constantly provided us motivation, gave us crucial feedback and contributed valuable ideas towards the layout, design etc of the site.
All through this ThinkQuest journey we were in constant touch with each other, sharing ideas, giving feedback and assisting each other. Thanks to technologies such as Google Talk, Skype, Yahoo Messenger etc that communication was not a problem. However the time difference between the various regions in which we were spread out was. We overcame that by carefully synchronizing with each other. Our assistant coach set-up a file manager online so that we could upload and download content anytime and it was made available to everyone.
One memorable event was the interview of Vijay Krishnan, co-founder of InfoAxe, which was done via the phone. The actual questions were formed by Jason, Danny and Kamika while the interview was conducted by Varun and the transcript of the interview was done by Satheesh and Danny. Thus after quite a few international calls, some serious contribution to internet traffic, many days of working into the night, thinking as a team, working as a team, The Seekers site for ThinkQuest09 came to be.
Team Diversity
The Seekers team for the ThinkQuest09 consists of Danny, Jason, Satheesh, and Varun from India, Kamika from Singapore, and Patricia from the United States. The Assistant Coach Jayakumaran is from India and Coach Amit is from Singapore.
The guys from India took on all the coding and the design of the website, while the other team members from Singapore and the US involved themselves in the content organization of the website. But that was only the intended delegation of the tasks. The team closely collaborated with each other overcoming all their differences, assisting each other and sharing tasks.
The team members from India go to different colleges, and came together to compete in ThinkQuest. They had all the resources needed to do the design and the coding of the web site. It was their domain and they did it with glee.
Kamika from Singapore had easier access to the tech people concerned with Search Engines and also better access to the information needed for the content writing. She also enhanced the scope of the site by doing interviews of people who actually worked at a major Search Engine.
Patricia from The United States was adept in French and she translated the English version into French. Since none of the other team mates knew French, there was initially some difficulty but technology saved the day – we compensated for our lack of knowledge in French using Google Translator.
