Learning About Our Community

The entry is an investigation about the Mountain View Community, where our school is located. We have researched the history of our community by interviewing historical figures in Mountain View, teachers at Mountain View Elementary, and researching museum archives for pictures of the community in its early stages of development. The web site was created for students to build a sense of community pride and to gain a sense of the community and Anchorage history. I also wanted my students to be exposed to various methods of research and resources they may not have been aware of, and for them to be empowered to tap into these resources. We utilized the Municipal Library, the Museum of History and Art, and prominent historical figures who helped to establish the Mountain View Community.
