ICQ & SMS language --- convenience or corruption?

We found that the teenagers are now using ICQ or SMS languages very often. We think that it is important to find out if using ICQ or SMS languages is a convenience or a corruption. Moreover, we have done a survey to find out if the students like to use these languages and their feelings about using them. What do you think about these languages?
