The web site is designed to increase the awareness of students to the importance of the man made waterway, The Erie Canal. This site offered the students the opportunity to research the evolution of a historically significant creation by man. It also gave them the chance to discuss the future of this waterway as it relates to New York States goals. We began the project with visits to historical sites of the Erie Canal along with the present day Barge Canal. This set into motion the students desire to discover what happened to the canal and why it changed its focus over the years.
