'Life on the Strings'

Puppetry plays an important role in spreading knowledge in most parts of the world. Puppetry imbibes elements of all art forms of arts with the application of folklore, painting, sculpture, music, dance and elements of theatre. Puppetry has emerged as a living form of communication particularly in the rural areas where technology hasn’t yet taken over the traditional art forms. Puppetry enables the students to develop their creativity. This traditional form of story telling has been extensively used in India as a popular and an inexpensive medium to transmit knowledge particularly about Indian myths and legends. Folklore has been a very important part of this medium. Our website will showcase the traditional puppetry. Team will collaborate in designing and production of puppets. Design classroom projects based on folklore and traditional legends. Collaboration from other countries in the project to highlight their traditional puppetry will enhance the collaborative project. LAUNCHING OF THE WEBSITE: 21 March 2009: THE WORLD PUPPETRY DAY. We chose this day to submit the website as part of the celebrations across the world to promote and acknowledge the importance of puppetry. Several programs like Screening of films and short puppet performances have been organised world wide. We dedicate our website ‘Life on the Strings’ on this historical day to the wonderful people who has kept the Art of Puppetry alive for generations to ponder over this amazing craft over the ages...

Team Collaboration

The diversity of the team who are from three different schools of two different countries yielded a high degree of collaboration and team work in the project.

The team maintained a cultural and communicative link to progress with the project through regular messaging, online chatting and effectively used all the interact tools in the Thinkquest.

The students team Anurekha, Arjal, Roahith are from India and Andrea , Orlando are from Italy Anurekha and Arjal put up their efforts to collect all the first hand information related to the Puppetry in India through interviews, video recording while Roahith browsed all the links in the websites to provided all additional information for organizing the contents. Andrea, Orlando enriched the team with information of puppetry of their Country and also around the world. They also provided a video on a lively puppetry show in their school. Arjal took up the task in summation of the contents while Anurekha took up the challenging role to create the websiteunder the guidance of Mr.Deb.

Besides these, with application of Survey monkey .com the team conducted a survey which could collaborate with about 41 think quest members around the world for obtaining the responses for the survey. The team has also collaborated with some members of the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari Guwahati, INDIA our primary area of research, for enriching the contents of the project.

Our Italian friends guided by Mrs Palazzo created some wonderful video on school classroom activity and translated our site into Italian. The team also supported us by providing inputs as queries and scripted short plays which they later converted into video.

Team Diversity

The members are from three different schools, two different countries : Italy and India, with different language,cultures,religions and socio-economic backgrounds.

The students team Anurekha, Arjal, Roahith is from India and Andrea, Orlando from Italy, and each seems to have some special qualities which have enriched the project.

Anurekha D.speaks Bangla, English, Hindi, Assamese very well.She is also learning some Italian which helped in understanding the Italian team. Her passion is painting, where she has excelled at several National and International pursuits. She has a rich command in photography and creating video on movie maker and use of other digital software. She also shows keen interest in learning web designing.

Arjal J. loves reading books. Unlike the other members she does not have a computer at home but her passion for working on think quest during and after the school hours. She has put up rich contribution in the project. She is ever ready to be on the move to complete the assignments for the project. She also shows keen interest in learning web designing.

Roahith R from Bangalore, who joined the project little late, loves to work on the computer, surfing websites, reading articles (anything regarding science), playing online games, chatting with friends, always eager to look for recent happenings on the net. His contribution took the team to re-search the materials available on the internet. This has been very helpful during the formative period of the site.

Andrea and Orlando from Italy love sports and music. They have put in wonderful video and inputs which covered areas from Italy. They also scripted the stories which was later converted into effective videos.

Ms Zeenat the assistant coach has been a very active thinker having won National acclaim for her projects on thinkquest. She also has an in-depth training in puppetry under CCRT India, was the best guide for the student members in managing the contents and the base for the project.

Mr.Deb the coach, who has been trained in Project Based Learning at 21Century Learning Institute Singapore and has won several accolades in the field of art, photography, computers and internet based education, has motivated the team to put up the lively website.

Working with new techniques like flash animation was a rich experience to our students.
