Memories of the Secret War

2001
Many people don't know about the Secret War because it was kept under a very low profile. The Secret War took place in Laos and like its name, it implies the Secret War was a total secret. The countries involved in the Secret War were the U.S., Thailand, Laos, and North Vietnam. The preludes to the Secret War were the differing opinions of political parties on which governmental structure would reign in Vietman. This war caused havoc and grief to the people that occupied the territories that became the battlegrounds. Our mission is to inform our viewers about what happened during the Secret War and how it separated the Hmong people.

Radical Times:The Antiwar Movement of the 1960's

1999
The Vietnam War was fought by the United States between 1965 to 1973. It was the longest war the country had ever fought. The Vietnam War was unique in one other regard: It gave rise to the largest and most successful antiwar movement in United States history. In a sense, the war in Vietnam could be described as a two front war -the war in Vietnam was waged with tanks, guns and bullets - and a "war at home," was fought on the streets and campuses throughout the nation. Rooted in early Sixties? student radicalism protesting political repression on college campuses, the Antiwar Movement is considered to be a direct outgrowth of the Free Speech Movement. At the outbreak of the Vietnam War, student radicalism inspired by the Free Speech Movement later grew to represent a national voice protesting United States involvement in the war, as Americans started to question the relevance of U.S. presence in a conflict-taking place halfway around the world. The goal of this site is to educate the visitor about this ?forgotten era? in American history and relate the past of the Antiwar Movement to the present.

The Paradox of the Third World War

2009
The friction between nations like USA/Iran, Palestine/Israel, India/Pakistan etc. is developing, and the sparks are haphazardly affecting the world in a ripple effect. The increase of interdependence of nations caused due to smudging of boundaries on our planet's geography is called Globalization. Every nation depends on the other for its continuity and cooperation required to maintain stability and peace. The game is poised so, that no nation will step on the other first, calculating the risk of them being wiped out as a consequence. And yet it may happen. This is the paradox of the Third World War. As teenagers, there is not much we can do but spectate. OR draw consequences, stretch the chaos theory into several branches and analyze. This is exactly what we plan to do. Have a nice day.

Admiral Horatio Nelson - Hero@Sea

2001
What do you expect from a successful military leader? He always obeys orders until he is able to conduct a war himself. That was completely different with Admiral Sir Horacio Nelson: from the beginning of his military career the man who rose from the ranks and was to become Britain''s most popular war hero chose to think on his own and to perform naval operations according to his own ideas, thus gaining success and glory for himself and his country through military disobedience. This is the issue that goes through Nelson''s life and work, and this entry examines Nelson''s life through this angle. Indeed, military tactics of his time had become old-fashioned and made obsolete by the development of modern weapons as well as ships, and he was the first one to realize and appreciate the changes. Being successful, he escaped punishments. He conquered the oceans for his country, and thus England was able to construct its empire. On the web-site "Admiral Nelson - Hero @ Sea" you can find all the relevant information about Nelson himself, but also about the Great War between England and France from 1793 to 1815 and the historical development of Great Britain''s Empire. You can see why and how Nelson completely changed the course of European history. The site also contains a glossary of some Naval words, and explains ranks and ships of the Royal Navy from the 18th century. If you want to find Napoleon`s real opponent you will find him inside this site!

Medic! Medic!

1999
The "Medic! Medic" website is designed to provide information on combat medics. Although it is difficult to find "textbook" material on such a specific military position, there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence that describes the important role medics play in wartime. We were fortunate enough to find a number of medics and medical personnel that were willing to share their personal stories with us. This website also has a number of special features that can assist any student or teacher looking for primary sources on war. Most importantly, we were able to acquire actual film footage from World War II that shows the process of gathering the wounded and transporting them to the hospital ship, USS Bountiful (which happens to be the ship that one of our student's great-grandfather served on!) Although, the information on wartime medics is hard to find, we believe that our website covers the topic nicely.

Operation Desert Fox

1999
Our entry is a website on Iraq. We are hoping that it will help other people understand what is happening in this crisis. We think that Iraq is a very interesting topic and because things are so different there, it is neat to learn about. We hope that people can know what is going on in Iraq so that they can understand our conflicts better. In our website there is a site on the background of Iraq to help us learn why people act the way they do there. There are also 2 pages that tell about the weapons technology that the U.N. and Iraq use. We have an interview with a pilot of a stealth squadron and a page about the recent problems with Iraq. Lastly we have a page about the leader of there country Saddam Hussein. Our hard work should pay off by helping other students learn about our crisis, and if people have to do a project on Iraq this should help them out.

Phenix of Sarajevo

1999
The entry is chiefly about Sarajevo and a comparison of three eras in its existence. The first is the period of highest prosperity in which Sarajevo hosted the XIV Winter Olympic Games in 1984. The second period in which the city was under siege during the horrific war from 1992-95 that reached the highest point in 1994. The third is the period is the post-war period during which this page was made. It looks at the reconstruction of a devastated city in all its aspects; from buildings to post-war psychology. Metaphorically the name of the entry "Phoenix of Sarajevo" is directed at the people who fought for the city to the end. The entry is aimed to present to the world this enigmatic city that the Black & Yellow empire called in 1878 Terra nova. It also show how a nation can fall from the highest regards to the deepest catacombs in just a few years and how it rebuilds itself internally. It's not just a point of view on a historical situation; it's a warning and an appeal to the world for world peace and collaboration.

History of the Crusades

1998
In the legends, knights always seem to be so romantic. In reality, these knights were not as courteous and chivalrous as we've been told. On crusade in hot, desert countries, their armor turned into sweat boxes, which made it hard to be chivalrous. In spite of this, there were four different crusades to "free" the Christian holy lands from the Muslims, and in the process, make the crusaders wealthy men. This page provides a brief history of each crusade and both sides of the conflict.
