This website was created in the defense of Upward Bound and all other associated programs with TRiO. Sadly the President of the United States has decided to say that money is more important than education. Because of the proposed Fiscal Year 2006 budget, Upward Bound will cease to exist if there is no action taken. We would like you to view what Upward Bound is from the students' eyes, and hopefully you can pass it on to the President.

Education is often considered as the key to human progress, providing young children with sufficient skills and knowledge to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Yet, as we enter the technological age of the 21st century, our current education system which places much emphasis on rote learning and regurgitation is proving to be inadequate in enabling students to cope with the changing facades of everyday life. The purpose of creating this web page is to educate the visitors on learning and education. Through an informative web page, we hope to bring to people a greater understanding on the different aspects of education and the process of learning, which are interwoven in our everyday life. The web page will be useful for students, teachers and parents due to the scope of information we will be providing. We hope to achieve the objective of coming up with an educational web page where people will get to learn something new and obtain help in any problems they encounter in the process of learning.

Thus the title flower to flower. This site show how the biological aspects of plant growth are linked to seemingly non biological displines like mathematics and physics. It shows that entwined in the biology is statistics, probability, permutations, combinations, the physics of capillarity and osmosis.

Trigonometry is a very important aspect of the mathematical and scientific world. It ties in the two important fields of mathematics, being algebra and geometry. Trigonometry enables one to express visual ideas in a standard, algebraic manner. It is through the use of trigonometric functions that many mathematical principles can be expressed. This is why Trigonometry is as important today as it ever has been. This page attempts to teach the user about Trigonometry, its proofs, and applications. It takes a humorous approach to this task, making the experience much less painful to the user than a typical math class on the Trigonometry topic.

We, as humans, must learn to comprehend the tremendous power water has over us all. Without this simple hydrogen-oxygen substance, life would cease to exist. Yet, the simple fact remains that we are depleting our water resources at an alarming rate and we must understand the fact that water is finite, even though the capability remains to produce this substance. Water is something we should cherish, value, and respect; for without it, we would be no more. "Water, Water, Everywhere..." is an educational site that digs deep into all aspects of water, a truly fascinating substance. From scientific aspects to health benefits and consequences to its sheer destructive force, this in-depth look at water will help provide the basic, fundamental education necessary to help not only save a life, but the lives of countless billions.

Unlike other disabilities/handicaps, learning disabilities are invisible. Because of this, they often go undiagnosed. Undiagnosed Learning Disabled Kids are erroneously labeled lazy and unmotivated, and they suffer needlessly because they are punished for being off task, and for failing to demonstrate their obvious intelligence in their academic performance. This results in low self-esteem and depression due to their feelings of unworthiness caused by the knowledge that they are disappointing and hurting their parents. They find themselves incapable of doing anything to change that, and often end up believing that they are stupid. Feeling different at an age when they just want to fit in, they develop poor peer relations and often become academic or social dropouts. This site was created to avert such a disaster.
In this virtual tree house, LD kids can learn more about their disabilities and discover ways in which they can help themselves. This information is available in text form, streaming audio, and via mobile phone through WAP technology. Ball and body of player in several ball games are filmed by a video camera. Joining image sequences in a unique image we obtain a stroboscopic view of the movement. Furthermore a short film of image sequences can be seen. The image can be analyzed and we obtain velocity of the ball in free flight, effect of surfaces on bouncing and the effect of air drift in special conditions. The results already obtained are very beautiful and interesting and are useful for discussion of technical aspects in ball games sport. These images are displayed in our site and we will inform relevant information about ball games.

The Entry "Sailing Vessels" has two variants: one written in English and another written in Russian. First was created in Russian, bacause the idea belongs to the Russian students Mishurin Alexander and Zelensky Evgeny of the 10 grade, Omsk, That's why this part of the sight is more informative, it contains the history of building both Russian and foreign sailing vessels, it also has the following articles: Morse code, sea terms dictonary, a puzzle, funny stories connected with sea, folk signs to forecast the weather and others. The sight describes the most ressels, dimensions, their structure, euipment and different types of sails. The English version is not so detailed. It describes only the beginning and development of Russin sailing shipbuilding from simple rowing vessels of Kiev Russia (1136) up to the latest models of Ekaterina's epoch, XIX century. We think it would be interesting for the foreign students to learn some facts especially from the Russian history. The sight represents the full discription of each ship, the history of its designedand building, the essence of the given name, some information about famous people, who commanded those ships, and the historic battles in which they participated. The same part of the sight has the article "Make It Yourself" which describes how to make the vessel model your self.

Stray voltage is an environmental pollutant that causes harmful effects in animals. I became interested in this subject after reading a research paper written by Dr. Christine Ratke. There is an absence of rodents in food storage areas on affected properties. Also, no mosquitoes or frogs are present in the ponds and marshes on these farms. I chose an invertebrate animals, the planaria, as my research test subject because the are native pond-dwellers with sensitive nervous systems which simplify conditioning. My dad helped me to design an apparatus to simulate stray voltage conditions. Our hypothesis was that stray voltage has an adverse effect on the conditioning rate and regeneration of planaria. Most exposure an animal may have to electricity in its environment is alternating current with a frequency of 60 cycles per second (HZ), so I used a generator set at 60 cycles/sec. An animal may also be exposed to a frequency that is higher than 60 Hz, or current that is less than 1/2 of a 60 Hz cycle (transicent currents). I set up a continuous current of 3V at 1 milliampere. To simulate stray volutate I used transient currents produced by a 5V spike. A pulse of 5V at 0.017 seconds was miaintained. Planaria were placed under three conditions, ambient control, constant current and constant current with spikes, for 28 days and conditioned and tested for learning ability on days 1,3,7, 14, 21 and 28. The evaluation of research results was grouped according to perception, behavior changes and production losses.

This plant is regarded as a gift of the gods by some people while to others it is regarded as one of the worst aquatic alien invaders that must be eradicated at all costs. It has spread throughout the world crippling the rivers and lakes in many countries. Africa is particularly badly affected. Many people are unaware that the massive growth of water hyacinth is a direct result of man - we pollute the rivers and water hyacinth thrives on the nitrate rich waters. All around people are beginning to use this plant as a resource for self help schemes. It is a valuable plant that is being used to purify polluted water. Our attitude to this noxious weed has changed since we started this project. We believe that one has to look at the cause of the problem which is pollution. When the nations in Africa and the world work together to sort this out, only then will water hyacinth be brought under control. We have come to believe that the symptom which is the water hyacinth should be utilised effectively.

The goal of this webpage is to encourage new and help future exchange students. There is an overview of different exchange programs available and a brief checklist about what somebody should do before leaving home. To give other students an idea how it is to spend a year abroad in the US we wrote down our own experiences and collected comments and opinions from other exchange students, hostfamilies and organization employees. In addition we compared the USA with our homecountry Switzerland and took a close look at the American schoolsystem.
