'Life on the Strings'

Puppetry plays an important role in spreading knowledge in most parts of the world. Puppetry imbibes elements of all art forms of arts with the application of folklore, painting, sculpture, music, dance and elements of theatre. Puppetry has emerged as a living form of communication particularly in the rural areas where technology hasn’t yet taken over the traditional art forms. Puppetry enables the students to develop their creativity. This traditional form of story telling has been extensively used in India as a popular and an inexpensive medium to transmit knowledge particularly about Indian myths and legends. Folklore has been a very important part of this medium. Our website will showcase the traditional puppetry. Team will collaborate in designing and production of puppets. Design classroom projects based on folklore and traditional legends. Collaboration from other countries in the project to highlight their traditional puppetry will enhance the collaborative project. LAUNCHING OF THE WEBSITE: 21 March 2009: THE WORLD PUPPETRY DAY. We chose this day to submit the website as part of the celebrations across the world to promote and acknowledge the importance of puppetry. Several programs like Screening of films and short puppet performances have been organised world wide. We dedicate our website ‘Life on the Strings’ on this historical day to the wonderful people who has kept the Art of Puppetry alive for generations to ponder over this amazing craft over the ages...

One of the site's designers has just returned from touring with Big League Theatricals' 1999-2000 National and International Tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I. This multilingual site (in English, French, Spanish, Italian and German) provides tips for kids and information for those thinking of joining the ranks of actors and actresses. Her experiences, plus the experiences of professionals with whom she has worked, provide a glimpse of life on the road. Background information is also provided on, Anna Leonowens and King Mongkut, the historical figures upon which the show is based.

The Broadway Corner for Kids

"The Broadway Corner for Kids," creates an interactive style of learning that encourages students to take advantage of the Internet as a source of information and powerful collaboration tool. The objective of this Web site is to introduce k-6 students to the various aspects of five selected theatrical works based on researched information. Students must become independent users of information to the productive citizens of the 21st century. Therefore, "Broadway Corner for Kids" allows students the opportunity to locate, evaluate, and use the needed information in Guess Quest, Broadway Squares, and Internet Scavenger Hunt. In Guess Quest students identify theatrical characters. Students read researched materials to identify the characters. In Creative Corner, students respond to literature and make connections between literary texts and their own lives.
