Our entry is entitled Maritime and covers such topics as oceans of the world, kinds of ships, legends/superstitions, communicating with flags, interesting shipwrecks, careers, and a glossary of terms. The teams interest in maritime was an outgrowth of an enrichment Internet project involving the voyage of the Pride of Baltimore II to the Orient. Our objective in the further study of maritime was an extension/enhancement of our fourth grade social studies curriculum which focuses on the study of Maryland and includes an exploration of our Chesapeake Bay and the Port of Baltimore. Additional educational objectives focused on having the children develop their research skills by collecting, organizing, and interpreting information from a variety of sources which included electronic media as well as library materials and the interview process. The children needed to be able to present that multidisciplinary information accurately in an organized electronic format while working together cooperatively and collaboratively.
