Pardon Me, Do You Have The Time?

1999
The major objectives of "Excuse Me, Do You Have The Time?" are for students to read to be informed, to demonstrate competency in using technological resources as tools to gain information, answer questions, or solve problems, to practice telling time, to provide an interactive experience in writing for personal expression, and to provide a research tool for learning about the history of telling time. The various facets of our web page deal with these objectives. Students may access a page about the history of time, go to a page where they select the correct time on a clock, read a story and select their own answer or enter a suggestion of their own, find out interesting facts about records that have been set related to time, or read a rhyme related to time.

The Winged Chariot of Time

1999
Time is the element in which we exist. ... We are either borne along by it or drowned in it. --Joyce Carol Oates, "Marya" Time is one of the world's deepest mysteries. No one can say exactly what it is. Yet, the ability to measure time makes our way of life possible. Time and how we experience it have perplexed us. Physicists have concocted theories, but their time is measured by a wobbling pendulum or a vibrating atom and is not psychological time, which minces or leaps with little regard to the clock or calendar. As someone who understood the distinction observed, When you sit with a nice girl for two hours it seem like a minute, but when you are waiting for her to arrive, a minute seems like two hours. Our entry aims to explore the various theories and ideas that man has had about time, from the scientifically bizarre to those concerning practical life, from the first clocks to the space-time continuum to the possibility of time travel, or why we remember things in the past rather than those in the future. Its basically a catalogue of ideas, facts and speculation. Theres nothing too technical here, so sit back, relax and enjoy. Will our site be good enough to win? Only time will tell

Time

1999
The theme of our website is "Time". We have chosen to look at the history of time measurement down through the ages from the earliest marking of the phases of the moon through to the development of mechanical clocks until the atomic clocks today. We have traced the development of the calendar and the influence different thinkers; theologians, emperors and kings have had on the way we calculate the passing time. We felt that "Time" offered many possibilities for an interactive section on our website; a databank about time - how we talk about time, the words, idioms, proverbs that colour our daily language. A chat-room to encourage exchange of thoughts about how browsers experience time. Our overall educational objective is to encourage browsers to think about "Time" how it affects and dominates their lives. How the concept of "Time" has developed over time and is still developing - there was time when the concept of a second was unknown, now "every second counts".

Time Warp

1999
Our website explores the importance of the concept of time through history, literature, science, current events, and creative writing. Indeed, it is impossible to imagine a field that time does not touch. "Time Warp"invites wonderers to ponder a phenomenon that is usually taken for granted. Must time flow in a linear path? Why was the measurement of time so important to ancient civilizations? How does our perception of time influence the way we see the world? Will we really travel through time? Visitors to our site will learn about time measurement from earliest time, clocks, ancient civilizations, different types of calendars, and scientific interpretations of time. They will begin to fathom Albert Einstein's theory of relativity and the bending of time when influenced by mass. Creativity will be challenged as students add to our list of time expressions and imagine where they would go, and what they would do, if they could travel through time. They will predict what will happen when Y2K becomes a reality. It is our hope that students will realize the potential latent in the mysteries of a universe that is incompletely understood. Perhaps their questions can lead to more understanding in the future.
