Who can edit content on my pages?
Project pages: All members of the project can create content, but the Coach decides whether students can edit and delete other students' content.
Personal pages: Only the owner can create, edit, and delete content on a personal page. The only exception is that teachers can delete inappropriate content created by their students.
I can't edit or delete something on a page. What could the problem be?
Project pages: You can only edit or delete content if you are a member of the project; in addition, if you are a student, the Coach decides whether you can edit or delete content created by another student. Make sure you are in the
Member view.
Personal pages: You can only edit or delete content on your own personal pages. In addition, make sure you are in the
Layout view.
What is the purpose of the My Work page?
The
My Work page is the landing page under your
My Home tab. This page displays all the content you've created on personal pages and projects, so that visitors can view a summary of your contributions to ThinkQuest Projects in one place.
How do I earn badges on the My Work page?
Badges are small icons that appear on your
My Work page. You can earn badges for being a member of a spotlight project, a member of a winning ThinkQuest Competition team, or a member of a ThinkQuest Competition team whose content was selected for publication in the ThinkQuest Library.
How do I change my landing page to something other than My Work?
By default, the landing page under your
My Home tab is your
My Work page. However, you can change your landing page to be your first personal page instead. Visit the
My Account section for instructions.
What is the purpose of the My Activity page?
The
My Activity page is located under your
My Home tab. This page displays a log of activity related to your personal pages and projects, so that you can track new content, new members, and other updates.
Is there a file size limit for uploading?
Yes, you cannot upload files that are larger than 10 megabytes.
Can I upload any type of file?
See the
Upload: File section for a list of filetypes that are and are not permitted.
I am having trouble uploading a file. What could the problem be?
There are a number of reasons why you might have trouble uploading a file:
- It can take several minutes to upload a file, so please be patient. If your file does not finish uploading after several minutes, your internet connection may be too slow to upload the file properly. Try using a computer with a faster connection.
- Make sure the size of your file is under 10 megabytes. Small files upload more quickly than large files.
- Make sure you are uploading a filetype that is permitted.
- If you are connecting to ThinkQuest Projects from a network, ask your network administrator if your network allows files to be transferred.
I am having trouble opening a file. What could the problem be?
There are a number of reasons why you might have trouble opening a file:
- You may be using a browser that is not supported by ThinkQuest.
- You may need special software to open the file. Check the filetype to determine whether you have software that is compatible.
- The file may not be correctly named (for example, if it is an Apple OS file, it may be missing a file extension). If this is the case, send a message to the owner of the page.
I found some inappropriate content. What should I do?
Students: Tell your teacher right away.
Teachers: Flag the content right away to remove it from student view (view instructions in the
Flag Student Content section). If the content was created by a student in your school, you also have the option of deleting it rather than flagging it. If the content was created by a student in a different school, please do not contact him/her directly. Communication should always be directed to a student's teachers through flagging and any subsequent discussions.
Escalation Policy: While the majority of content issues should be handled by schools, the Oracle Education Foundation understands that some content may require immediate removal from ThinkQuest Projects. If you believe that certain content created by a student in another school should be removed immediately (rather than simply flagged) due to its nature, please contact us.
What guidelines should schools follow when reviewing flagged content?
Content must not violate the
Terms of Use. Schools should use their best judgment in determining whether the content benefits learning without causing offense to other members of the global ThinkQuest Projects community. It is the school's responsibility to determine how best to handle their own instances of inappropriate content, subsequent student discipline, and whether that student should be allowed to continue using ThinkQuest Projects.
Note that the Oracle Education Foundation reserves the right to flag content, delete content, and terminate any member's account at any time and for any reason.
What if I have a disagreement about whether content is appropriate or inappropriate?
We encourage teachers to engage in a discussion to evaluate the following potential solutions:
- Gain a better understanding of the content. Through this process you may agree that it is not offensive when better understood.
- Reach a compromise by modifying the content so that each party can live with its public existence.
- Agree that the content is offensive and that it be removed.
What should schools do if any content mediation issues cannot be resolved?
If schools are unable to come to an understanding, they may request that the ThinkQuest Safety Officer intervene by contacting us and selecting "Program Misuse" as the subject. The Safety Officer will review each incident individually. If the Safety Officer determines that the content is inappropriate for children, the content will be removed immediately and the student's school notified. School Administrators are responsible for discussing these decisions with teachers, students, and parents where appropriate.
What happens if I don't review student content on a regular basis?
If student content has not been reviewed, teachers and School Administrators will receive notifications every 15 days. After 60 days, all student accounts will be disabled and students will not be able to regain access to ThinkQuest Projects until content is reviewed. View instructions in the
Review Student Content section.
We are not able to review content at this time. What should we do?
During periods when teachers will not be able to monitor student activity (such as vacations), the School Administrator should set a vacation period in order to disable student access to ThinkQuest Projects. In addition, vacation periods are not counted when determining whether a school has reviewed content in the past 60 days. When the vacation period expires, student access is automatically enabled. View instructions for setting a vacation period in the
School Settings section.
